HD TV downloads and other iTunes rumors
September 4, 2008
It's
iTunes rumor time again, with
Apple planning a press event for
Tuesday and every Mac-
devoted site
and anyone else with an Internet connection speculating
on what's coming. On the video side, Apple is rumored to be adding high
def TV shows, according to
Digg founder
Kevin Rose quoting a source on
his
blogg
 (the added g, his).
Maybe some of you video guys out there can let us know if there's any
truth to it in the comments below?
There's also talk of some new iPods and a new music jukebox-type
function called Genius, which some are comparing to music recommendation
site Pandora, which is basically a similar idea to
Netflix
recommendations on the movie side in that it makes recommendations based
on the music you and others like you like.  I'm surprised we're not
seeing more of it on the movie side. Netflix, and to some extent Amazon
and a lesser extent Hulu, have so far been the only online
video players
(that I can think of, tell me if I'm missing someone) making movie and
TV recommendations. Isn't that one of the reason people give for VOD
having yet to take off - a lack of merchandising?
