3D Blu-ray services started at Trailer Park

Company will work with Panasonic Hollywood Labs on menus, extras, games

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 1/5/2010

JAN. 5 | Production firm Trailer Park has launched 3D Blu-ray Disc operations, following last month’s completion of the 3D Blu-ray specification.

Trailer Park’s 3D activities will be run under the company’s recently launched Advanced Content Group, which is geared toward Blu-ray bonus features and interactivity. Collaborating with Panasonic Hollywood Labs, Trailer Park plans to develop 3D interactive menus, extras and games.

The Advanced Content Group also will utilize the expertise of Trailer Park’s Theatrical Group, which has already produced a number of 3D trailers for the big screen.

“Our goal at Trailer Park is to continue building relevant capabilities that reflect the changing entertainment environment,” said Rick Eiserman, the company’s CEO. “Our new Advanced Content Group stands on the bleeding edge in its ability to anticipate and implement new forms of creative, enhancing new forms of technological delivery systems, as they are developed and introduced into the consumer marketplace.”

Trailer Park’s push into 3D Blu-ray comes on the heels of authoring/replicator Technicolor similarly announcing that it is open for 3D business. Also, on Monday, Testronic Labs said it was ready to begin quality assurance testing for 3D Blu-ray discs.

Trailer Park’s collaborator Panasonic is expected to be one of many manufacturers at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show to announce a wave of new 3D Blu-ray hardware for release this year.

“3D Blu-ray creates an entirely new space for the creative community to play in, so we knew early on that it would be important for us to align ourselves with an established entertainment company like Trailer Park,” said Jeannine Patton, VP/general manager at Panasonic Hollywood Labs’ Advanced Authoring Center. “We began conducting menu and graphics trials last summer, well in advance of the 3D Blu-ray specification finalization, which was just recently announced.”
