> Holiday tearjerker with Rob Lowe as an egotistical writer.

Rob Lowe stars as an author who learns the high price of fame in this inspirational and fairly obvious Yuletide-themed cable movie. The troubles begin when Lowe’s character writes a surprise bestseller and begins to ignore his wife and daughter. A guardian angel (Christopher Lloyd) promptly shows up to question his behavior, and ... most viewers will be able to guess the rest. Lloyd is particularly good as the angel, but the rest of the cast gamely go through the motions, ensuring that Perfect Day is a classically-styled tearjerker.

Shelf Talk: Lowe has continued to stay in the public eye, most recently with recurring roles on The West Wing and Brothers and Sisters. A Perfect Day premiered on TNT and has the advantage of being based on a book by popular author Richard Paul Evans (The Christmas Box). It’s sure to lure in those for whom the Ion/Pax network is a locked-in channel.

Drama, color, NR (nothing offensive), 91 min., DVD $24.96
Extras: none
Director: Peter Levin
First Run: TNT, Dec. 2006
