> Atom Egoyan's film delves into familiar turf with intriguing results.
Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter) has for years been obsessed with tragedy, voyeurism and the media's depiction of the truth. Here he examines the same themes in brooding fashion while unveiling the story of Simon (Devon Bostick), a high school student who, through a school project assigned by his teacher (Egoyan's wife Arsinée Khanjian), reveals that his father was a terrorist who killed his mother and others in a plane bombing. What really occurred is debated, while other characters such as Simon's uncle (Scott Speedman) and grandfather (Kenneth Welsh) each play a role in the compelling mystery. Adoration doesn't boast the NC-17 sexual moments seen in Egoyan's recent Where the Truth Lies, but it does pack some nice surprises that are not solved until the film's final moments.
Shelf Talk: Egoyan is an indie name to be reckoned with, and this effort will appeal to his fans. Sony plans to push it aggressively on the Web.
