> Spirited homage to the alien invasion sci-fi flicks of the ’50s.
Eric McCormack (TV’s Will and Grace) is a small-town scientist whose body is taken over by an invading one-eyed alien in this entertaining, retro-flavored homage to ’50s sci-fi movies. The look and production values are fine, and the cast goes through the appropriate stylized paces to make this kind of piece work, with lovely actresses Jenni Baird as a lively waitress and Jody Thompson as McCormack’s sexy wife looking like they’re having a great time. We’ve seen these kinds of tributes to the invading alien genre before, and this one fits right in, though it doesn’t really offer anything fresh to the formula.
Shelf Talk: Alien Trespass fulfills the requirements of its role and will look fine on the new release shelf next to such comparable ’50s sci-fi homages as Matinee and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks!. Director R.W. Goodwin is known in sci-fi/horror circles for his TV producing credits, which include Tru Calling and The X Files, while actresses Thompson and Baird made some noise in the now-defunct sci-fi series The 4400.
