DVD Review: Dragon Hunters

By Ed Grant -- Video Business, 5/25/2009

PHASE 4

Street: June 23
Prebook: May 26
> Forest Whitaker headlines this entertaining cartoon.

A princess recruits two unlikely heroes to dispose of a dragon plaguing her uncle in this pleasant animated feature. Forest Whitaker offers name value, as he supplies the voice of a large Chinese man in the dragon-slaying duo. The computer-generated animation might not be parents’ cup of tea, but children will have fun with the many monsters on display.

Shelf Talk: This French-German co-financed cartoon will receive an aggressive merchandising campaign by Peace Arch, including a promotion targeting kids, gamers and comic readers. The filmmakers’ interactive Web site (www.dragonhunters-themovie.com), which offers images, videos and downloads, also could help.

Drama, color, PG (violent images), 82 min., DVD $29.98
Extras: interview, character bios, dragon gallery, “The Universe of Dragon Hunters”
Directors: Guillaume Ivernel, Arthur Qwak
First Run: L Intl., 2008, NA
