> Steven Seagal vs. zombie vampires, ’nuf said.

The Steven Seagal machine keeps on ticking, and this time it has a horror angle. Against the Dark’s post-apocalyptic plot centers on a virus that has turned most of the world’s population into zombie-like vampires who seek flesh and blood. A group of unaffected people hide for their lives in a hospital, but with time running out and members being quickly transformed into flesheaters, the group looks for help from Tao (Seagal), an expert swordsman and leader of a vigilante squad. More chopped flesh than chop-socky, with Seagal relegated mostly to sword-fighting altercations, this title will pull in the actor’s dedicated fans as well as gorehounds.

Shelf Talk: Retailers can expect results similar to those for such recent Seagal outings as Pistol Whipped and Kill Switch. Sony will target genre Web sites including Fangoria and CHUD for the carnage crowd. Also expect additional exposure thanks to Seagal’s new reality show, which is getting ready to launch on A&E.

Action horror, color, R (language, brief nudity, extreme violence), 94 min., DVD $24.96
Extras: featurette
Director: Richard Crudo
