Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!: Season 1

By Buzz McClain -- Video Business, 3/17/2008

WARNER

Street: April 22
Prebook: March 18
> Cartoon Net's live-action Tim and Eric actually do an 'awesome show' now and again.

No doubt the most critic-proof show on cable TV, Cartoon Network's live-action Awesome Show very often is anything but awesome—and that's the point. Comedians Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim are as self-aware as they are self-congratulatory in high-energy, inoffensive skits and commercials that take low-brow and low-budget liberties with the familiar contrivances of TV. Some of the spoofs are zanier than others, but in small doses, it's consistently amusing. Juno's Michael Cera guest stars in one of the 10 11½-minute episodes, along with John C. Reilly, Fred Willard, “Weird” Al Yankovic, Paul Reubens and Bob Odenkirk, among others.

Shelf Talk: The duo of Heidecker and Wareheim will support the release with a 12-city comedy tour this spring. Cartoon Network will air 30-second ads during its Adult Swim programming block, along with radio promotions and talent interviews. Look for Internet promotion on social networking Web sites, CollegeHumor.com and the network's own sites. The celebrity guests could pull their own fans, but overall, the 18-34 demographic is your best bet.

TV, color, NR (mild language), 115 min., DVD $19.97
Extras: directors' commentary, featurette, deleted and extended scenes, blooper reel
Directors: Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Jonathan Krisel
