ACTIONColor, R (violence, mild language), 90 min., VHS rental price, DVD $24.95
Street: Feb. 20, Prebook: Feb. 1
Cast: Frank Zagarino (Operation Delta Force), Kayle Watson (Absolute Aggression), John Christian (Strike Zone), Caroline Strong (Trust), Jerry Kokich (Mystic Knights and Pirate Fights)
Director: J. Christian Ingvordsen
MTI
Story Line: A combined special forces team of FBI agents (Kokich, Strong) and military hot shots (Christian, Watson) must track down a hijacked shipment of plutonium before it falls into the hands of Middle Eastern terrorists. When a member of the team is killed, the call goes out for Top Gun Frank White (Zagarino) to save the day.
Bottom Line: An impressive array of authentic fighter jets, aircraft carriers, tanks, missiles, armed Jeeps, helicopters, submarines and machine-gun-toting hoards of human targets fill Airboss with bullets. Yes, the story defies logic or clarity, but undemanding genre fans--young men, most likely--will find the proceedings passable enough. There are four other entries in the Airboss series, but this third installment (it's not labeled as such) is the first to be released on video. It's really a wham-bam showcase for director Ingvordsen, who also stars as lead character Webb. Too bad the prohibitive R rating will prevent teen boys from renting. --Buzz McClain
