SAG sets referendum for games
Voice actors could just work under AFTRA

JUNE 29 | Screen Actors Guild members will get a chance to vote on a videogame contract that was rejected last week by SAG's national executive committee. That's because on Wednesday, the guild's national board voted to hold a referendum vote on the executive committee's June 21 decision. The rejection in essence could hand guild jurisdiction of videogames to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. AFTRA approved the deal with videogame publishers, set to take effect July 1. And as many voice actors belong to both guilds, they could work under their AFTRA membership for videogame companies.
The proposed deal with videogame publishers would increase minimum pay to voice actors by 36% over the three-and-a-half-year contract. But it wouldn't give voice actors a share of royalties, a key request in negotiations.Ballots will be mailed to SAG members July 13 and are due back July 28. Due to the referendum, videogame companies have agreed to extend their contract offer to SAG through July 31. The SAG national board won't give members a recommendation for or against the proposal.
